Una commissione può organizzare un'audizione di esperti, ove ciò sia ritenuto essenziale ai fini del proprio lavoro su un determinato tema. Le audizioni possono anche essere tenute congiuntamente da due o più commissioni. La maggior parte delle commissioni organizza audizioni regolarmente in quanto consentono di consultare esperti e discutere temi fondamentali. In accordance with article 53 of Regulation (EU) no 2018/1725 (Data Protection Regulation for EU Institutions) “the European Parliament and the Council shall appoint the European Data Protection Supervisor by common accord for a term of five years, on the basis of a list drawn up by the Commission following a public call for candidates. The list of candidates drawn up by the Commission shall be public and shall consist of at least three candidates. (Seguito)

Following 20 years of negotiations, the EU and Mercosur countries struck a political agreement in June 2019 which aims to bring political and economic relations between the trading partners closer together, and to create the world's biggest market (by population size), for goods and services. On 12 November 2019 the Committee on Petitions organised a hearing on "FATCA and its extraterritorial impact on EU Citizens.” The aim of the hearing was to facilitate an exchange of views between the various stakeholders and listen to the issues faced by EU citizens affected by FATCA. The hearing consisted of two panels, focusing on financial services and the exchange of tax information with the US and on potential conflicts between European data protection rules and FATCA.
