Meeting of 3 July 2023, in Brussels
The meeting of the Delegation was organised as part of the Democracy Support and Electoral Coordination Group (DEG) study visit for a delegation of 20 Moldovan MPs, including Speaker Grosu, in Brussels. The meeting was devoted to an exchange of views with Speaker Grosu, in presence of the 20 MPs and focused on the reforms undertaken by the Moldovan authorities to meet the nine conditions set out in the Commission's opinion and the Commission's oral update of 22 June 2023.

The meeting aimed at preparing the 11th meeting of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee in Strasbourg on 6-7 April in the context of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and its impact on Moldova, as well as Moldova's application for EU membership. It concluded that the Delegation should encourage a sense of ambition by adopting a PAC statement that would call for EU institutions to grant Moldova EU candidate status. The guest speakers were Mr TIBBELS, Head of Division for Bilateral Relations with Eastern Partnership countries European External Action Service, Mr MEREDITH, Director for the Neighbourhood East & Institution Building (DG NEAR) and Mr TASCHNER, Head of Unit Migration Management Preparedness (DG ECHO).

The meeting was devoted to an exchange of views on the latest political developments in Moldova, and a presentation of the new Moldovan government's reforms programme and foreign policy priorities by Ms Natalia GAVRILIŢA, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, and Mr Nicu POPESCU, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

The meeting was devoted to Moldova's resilience vis-a-vis disinformation and foreign interference, a very timely topic of discussion a few weeks before parliamentary elections in Moldova which were described as 'historic'. Moldovan political landscape is very polarised and the country is an easy target of malign foreign disinformation campaigns. The Special Committee for foreign interference in all democratic processes in the EU (INGE) was associated to the meeting and its Members provided added value to the debate. The guest speakers were Ms Corina Cepoi, Chisinau office of the international non-profit organisation 'internews' and Mr Lutz Guellner, EEAS Head of Division, Strategic Communications (STRATCOM) 2.

During the D-MD constituent meeting on 26 September 2019, the members of the Delegation's Bureau were elected by acclamation.

It was also the occasion, for the Members, to exchange views on the linguistic profile of the Delegation.
