Welcome to the new website of the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.

As chair of this delegation, and as Co-President of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, I am delighted to devote a significant part of my term of office as an MEP to ensuring the success of these bodies, by chairing their meetings and taking a leading role in their debates, to which I can bring my wealth of experience, in particular as former European Commissioner for Development.

I especially enjoy this particular role because the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly is a unique institution which focuses on topics of fundamental importance to the countries it represents: promoting democracy, good governance, developing trade and economic relations, etc.

It is hardly surprising, therefore, that topics such as climate change, economic partnership agreements and the challenges of population growth have been and are at the top of the agenda for our recent and future meetings. The future of the Cotonou Agreement features heavily, too, because that agreement provides the legal basis for our Assembly; our members have therefore started to think in detail about the agreement that will succeed the Cotonou Agreement, and they will ensure that it continues to have a strong parliamentary dimension.

For all these reasons, I wish the Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly every success.
