Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to the site of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community (DAND).
As the elected chair of the delegation, I preside over our regular meetings in Brussels and Strasbourg and set the agenda for our work with the Andean Community.
In addition to our meetings within the European Parliament, we organise an annual mission to one of the Andean Community countries to meet with elected representatives, government officials, business people and members of civil society.
Moreover, the DAND closely follows the political situation in its focus countries and organises ad hoc delegations due to important events. In 2016, for example, I had the honour to co-chair an ad hoc delegation to Colombia, when a referendum was held on the peace agreement reached between the Government and FARC.
The current term of the European Parliament is particularly significant for the work of this Delegation because of the progress made on the peace process in Colombia. We are following advancements closely.
We are also following discussions related to the implementation of the comprehensive Trade Agreement with Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. This agreement will open up markets on both sides, as well as increase the stability and predictability of the trade and investment environment.
I am committed to guiding our delegation. When my term expires, in 2019, I hope to have created a legacy, in the form of a Delegation that enjoys tighter relationships with our Andean Community counterparts.
