Situation in Yemen
The European Parliament adopted by 539 votes to 13, with 81 abstentions a resolution on the situation in Yemen. The resolution was tabled by the ECR, ALDE, EFDD, S&D, GUE/NGL, Greens/EFA and EPP groups.
Parliament noted that the various rounds of UN-brokered negotiations have not yet led to a meaningful progress towards a political solution in Yemen and that the humanitarian situation continues to be catastrophic with 20.7 million requiring food assistance. It stressed that only a political, inclusive and negotiated solution to the conflict can restore peace and preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen.
Members called on all international and regional actors to engage constructively with Yemeni parties to enable a de-escalation of the conflict and a negotiated settlement. They urged Saudi Arabia and Iran to work to end the fighting in Yemen and on Iran to immediately cease providing support to Houthi forces in Yemen, either directly or through proxies. [...]
Humanitarian situation in Yemen

Parliament recalled that the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen, requested by Yemen's President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, including the use of internationally banned cluster bombs, has led to a disastrous humanitarian situation that affects the population across the country. It has serious implications for the region and constitutes a threat to international peace and security. Since the start of the conflict at least 5 979 people have been killed, almost half of them civilians, and 28 208 injured.
According to the members, the current crisis in Yemen is the result of the pre-existing domestic conflict, the intensification of airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition. They are concerned about the naval blockade it has imposed on Yemen.[...]

Seriously concerned at the rapidly deteriorating situation in Yemen, Parliament urged all warring parties to end the use of violence immediately and reaffirmed its strong support for the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Yemen.
Members condemned the destabilising and violent unilateral actions taken by the Houthis and military units loyal to ex-President Saleh as well as the air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition and the naval blockade it has imposed on Yemen.
Parliament urged all Yemeni parties, in particular the Houthis, to work towards resolving their differences through dialogue and consultation in order to enable a de-escalation of the crisis.
Parties are urged to refrain from targeting cultural heritage sites and buildings.[...]
The situation in Syria, Bahrain and Yemen
The resolution was tabled by the EPP, S&D, ALDE, Greens/EFA and ECR groups.
Parliament strongly condemns the violent repression by security forces of peaceful demonstrators in these countries, expresses its solidarity with the people in those countries, applauds their courage and strongly supports their legitimate democratic aspirations.
It urges the authorities of Bahrain, Syria and Yemen to refrain from the use of violence against protestors and to respect their right to freedom of assembly and expression. It condemns the interference by the authorities in Bahrain and Yemen in the provision of medical treatment and the denial and limiting of access to health facilities.
Members state that the use of violence by a state against its own population must have direct repercussions on its bilateral relations with the EU.[...]
