Northern Dimension Parliamentary Forum
European Parliament initiated the Northern Dimension Parliamentary Forum as the parliamentary component of the Northern Dimension policy shared by the EU, Russia, Iceland and Norway. The creation of the Forum was based on a European Parliament's resolution on the Future of the Northern Dimension, which underlined the Parliament's support for the establishment of the Northern Dimension Forum and its readiness to play a full part in it, as well as to host the first meeting.
An initial conference took place in 2007, followed in 2009 by the first full Northern Dimension Parliamentary Forum. Both events were hosted by the European Parliament in Brussels, as well as the Fifth Northern Dimension Parliamentary Forum on 22 November 2017.
The Sixth Forum took place on 18-20 November 2020 in Bodø, Norway.

The Forum in Norway focused on transport, maritime security, sustainable tourism and health, as well as environmental cooperation. Impact of the climate change on the Arctic, as a cross-cutting issue, was thoroughly discussed in all panels.
Vice President Othmar Karas represented the European Parliament at the Sixth Forum. He gave a speech during a panel on International transport cooperation and maritime security in the High North, as well as constructively contributed to the work of the drafting committee and other conference debates.
