Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to the webpages of the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with the countries of South Asia. This delegation is responsible for inter-parliamentary relations with Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

We meet at regular intervals with the Ambassadors of the respective countries, with representatives of the European External Action Service, with think tanks and NGOs, and of course with Members of Parliament of the countries concerned. This delegation also pays official visits to these countries for so-called inter-parliamentary meetings.

Discussions have focused on democracy, human rights, good governance, development cooperation, regional integration, trade and climate change, among others. Relations with these countries are based on different legal grounds, reflecting diverse patterns of intensity in commercial exchanges, investment flows, development cooperation, technical assistance, or cultural links.

You will find more details on our work and meetings in these pages. Often, our meetings are web-streamed and you are most welcome to follow our discussions live.
