Meeting of 4 March 2024

The Delegation for relations with Afghanistan will meet on 4 March from 16.30 to 18.00 in room Spinelli 5E2. The delegation will exchange views on the implications of the opium production ban in Afghanistan and on access to education for Afghan children, in particular girls. The meeting will be held "in camera".

Meeting on 26 October in association with the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI)

The Delegation for relations with Afghanistan held an exchange of views on the Deterioration of women's rights and safety in Afghanistan under Taliban rule with the speakers

  • Marzia Amiri, teacher and founder of the largest network of underground home schools in Afghanistan and
  • Maria Bashir, Former Prosecutor General of Herat Province, Afghanistan.

The meeting took place in the framework of the 4th European Gender Equality week in association with the DROI Subcommittee on 26 October 2023, 11.30 - 13.00 in room: Spinelli 1E2

Meeting on 23 May 2023 in association with the Committee on Development

A meeting of the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan (D-AF) in association with the Committee on Development (DEVE) took place on 23 May 2023 at 17.30 -18.30 with an exchange of views on Monitoring the provision of humanitarian and basic livelihoods aid to Afghanistan.

This meeting was held in camera.

In the miscellaneous items two documents were presented: Afghanistan-Humanitarian-Response-Plan-2023 and AFG-HNO-2023-v06 - Afghanistan - Human Needs Overview.

Meeting of 21 March 2023 (in association with FEMM)

A meeting of the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan (D-AF) in association with the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) took place on Tuesday 21 March 2023 at 9.00-10.30 with a hearing on the deteriorating situation of women in Afghanistan on the agenda.

Meeting of 29 November 2022 (in association with DROI)

A meeting of the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan (D-AF) in association with the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) took place on Tuesday 29 November 2022 at 16.00-17.30 with an exchange of views on the human rights situation in Afghanistan, in the presence of:

  • Richard Bennett, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan
  • Lisa Davis, Special Adviser on Gender Persecution to the International Criminal Court Prosecutor
  • Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director, Asia and Pacific, EEAS
  • Hussain Rezai, Afghan researcher, recipient of the Afghanistan Scholars at Risk Project at the Global Campus of Human Rights

Hearing on Afghanistan: regional impact after Taliban takeover

On 25 October 2022 at 10:30-12:30 the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) in association with the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan (D-AF) held a hearing on 'Afghanistan: regional impact after Taliban takeover'. The hearing aimed to examine EU policy towards Afghanistan in light of different positions taken by neighbouring countries towards Afghanistan and their cooperation with the de facto government. It also looked at the developments as regards the position of women and how their rights can be ensured.

Meeting of 10 October 2022

The Delegation for relations with Afghanistan (D-AF) held an ordinary meeting on Monday 10 October 2022 at 16.30-18.00.

The main point on draft agenda was an exchange of views to take stock of one year under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

A meeting of the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan (D-AF) in association with the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) took place on Tuesday 12 July 2022 at 10.45-11.30 with an exchange of views on the Afghan Women Leaders Forum and the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, in the presence of:

  • Stella Ronner-Grubačić, EU Ambassador for Gender and Diversity, EEAS
  • Hareer Hashim, Programme Manager for Women's International League for Peace and Freedom-Afghanistan section

The Delegation for relations with Afghanistan held an ordinary meeting on Monday 11 July 2022 at 17.00-18.00.

The main topic of discussion was an exchange of views on future Afghanistan Delegation activities.
