On Tuesday, 28 April, the European Parliament Office in Ireland will hold an event to encourage citizens from all EU Member States, resident in Ireland, to vote in the forthcoming European Elections between 4-7 June 2009.

Dr. Robert Verkerk of the Alliance for Natural Health and scientific advisor to the Irish Association of Health Stores (IAHS) will make a presentation to the European Parliament's Petitions Committee (http://www.europarl.europa.eu/activities/committees/homeCom.do?language=EN&body=PETI) at 3pm (2pm Irish time) on Monday, 19 January.

On 13 November, the Office of the European Parliament in Ireland hosted an event, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the European Parliament. Keynote speakers at the event included Pat Cox, former President of the European Parliament, Sir Julian Priestley, Former Secretary General of the European Parliament and Dick Roche, Irish Minister for European Affairs.

On 31 October, a citizens' briefing was organized on future National and European strategies to combat illegal drug abuse. The aim of the citizens briefing, which was hosted by the European Parliament Office in Ireland, was to inform Irish people of the EU Action Plan for Drugs 2009-2012. Citizens, many involved in drug projects around Ireland, used this opportunity to discuss drug abuse with the attending politicians including Eoin Ryan MEP.

On 29 October a delegation of the European Parliament's Constitutional Affairs Committee came to Dublin to meet with the Irish Parliament's Sub-Committee on Ireland's Future in the European Union. During the hearing Irish and European parliamentarians exchanged views on the way forward after the Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

Two media seminars, one for national journalists and the other for regional and local journalists, were organised by the European Parliament Office and the European Commission Representation in Ireland. During the three-day visits, the work of the Europe Parliament and the European Commission was explained to the journalists in a series of meetings with Hans-Gert Pöttering, the President of the European Parliament, Charlie McCreevy, the European Commissioner from Ireland and Bobby McDonagh, Ambassador, Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU and other senior civil servants of both institutions.

EuroparlTV, the European Parliament's own webTV channel was launched on Wednesday 17 September 2008 in Brussels. Celebrating this historic event, the European Parliament Office in Ireland, together with Eileen Dunne, invited the media to see clips from the launch ceremony.
