The European Parliament Information Office in Malta held a Conference on Friday 4 December marking the Sakharov Prize 2015. The Sakharov Prize is awarded every year to individuals or organisations who, mostly through self-sacrifice, become a beacon of Human Rights in their communities, against all odds.

Raif Badawi
Raif Badawi is the laureate of this year's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, following an October 29 decision by EP President Martin Schulz and the political group leaders. Badawi is a blogger from Saudi Arabia currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for insulting Islam on his website promoting social, political and religious debate. The Sakharov award ceremony will be held in Strasbourg on 16 December.

Mustang wins LUX Prize 2015
President Martin Schulz announced that Mustang had won the 2015 European Parliament LUX Prize for cinema at a ceremony in the Chamber in Strasbourg at noon on Tuesday. Mustang tells the story of five sisters who have been promised to husbands through forced marriages but who, determined to live their own lives, break the yoke of tradition.

Conference detail
'Living with Migration' is the theme chosen for a conference held by the European Parliament office on Friday in Valletta. The conference included input by lead experts in the field, human experiences by Milos and Saleh two migrants endevouring to integrate in Malta and a panel of employers followed by a compte-rendu by MEPs on their efforts in shaping a re-dimensioned EU policy on migration.

MEPs Sant, Dalli, and Metsola
A trade agreement with the US is arguably one of the biggest projects ever undertaken by the EU. On one hand its economic potential is significant, on the other it should not be achieved at the cost of existing standards. Above all, the process should be as transparent as possible. These were the key elements in a conference organised by the Malta Business Bureau and the European Parliament Information Office in Malta. The event saw Maltese MEPs and representatives of Maltese businesses discuss the possible impacts of an agreement on the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the EU and the US.

The Richmond Foundation was yesterday awarded the European Parliament’s Citizen's Prize for 2015 in a ceremony hosted by the European Parliament Office at Dar l-Ewropa, Valletta. The organisation had been jointly nominated for this year's prize by all six Maltese MEPs.
