EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (A8-0053/2019 - David Martin) NL

Ik heb de vrijhandelsovereenkomst tussen de EU en Singapore gesteund alhoewel ik principieel voorstander ben van meer afdwingbaarheid in het hoofdstuk duurzame ontwikkeling. Ik ben er echter van overtuigd dat Singapore wat dat betreft op de juiste weg is, dat Singapore en de EU op dezelfde manier naar duurzaamheid kijken en dat we nu een gezamenlijke weg naar een duurzame toekomst kunnen bewandelen.
Wat de ratificatie van de drie ontbrekende IAO-verdragen betreft, geloof ik de belofte van Singapore dat het land deze in de zeer nabije toekomst zal ratificeren. Singapore heeft dit op verschillende manieren bevestigd en ik zie geen reden om aan dit engagement te twijfelen.

Alhoewel ik de vrijhandelsovereenkomst wel gesteund heb, heb ik tegen de investeringsbeschermingsovereenkomst gestemd vanwege het geschillenbeslechtingsmechanisme dat erin is opgenomen. Ik erken dat ICS een stap vooruit is ten opzichte van ISDS maar de hervorming gaat voor mij niet ver genoeg.
