The fisheries sector has always been a source of conflicts in the enlargement process, given the socio-economic and regional importance of the sector in many countries and the significance within Europe of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and the associated consolidated Community acquis. The new member countries will represent a new challenge for the CFP and for certain applicant countries, in particular as far as Poland is concerned. The study analyses the fisheries sector in the twelve countries taking part in accession negotiations.
