Transport and Globalisation
In this note we give information about the globalisation processes that have taken place in the world economy and world trade, and examine their effects on goods transport. We propose the wider-scope application of ex-transport solutions, in order to moderate the level of environmental load. In the field of passenger transport, the long-term expected decrease and ageing of the population may play a role. It is worth examining in what ways the above factors modify the volumes and habits of passenger transport and the traditional structure of towns, and to what extent the tools of mobility management can be applied. The issues covered by this note were presented and discussed in the framework of a workshop on 'The Future of Transport' held in the European Parliament on 2 December 2009.
