EU's østlige partnerskab, der blev iværksat i 2009, omfatter seks tidligere sovjetstater: Armenien, Aserbajdsjan, Hviderusland, Georgien, Moldova og Ukraine. Det blev oprettet for at støtte de politiske, sociale og økonomiske reformbestræbelser i disse lande med henblik på at øge demokratisering og god regeringsførelse, energisikkerhed, miljøbeskyttelse samt økonomisk og social udvikling. Alle medlemmer med undtagelse af Hviderusland tager del i Den Parlamentariske Forsamling Euronest.

By agreeing with Serbia on ways to normalise relations, a key demand of the EU, Kosovo took a major step on the path towards the EU in 2013. Kosovo has started negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU, with conclusion expected in spring 2014.
