Im September 2022 schlug die Kommission eine Verordnung zur Schaffung eines gemeinsamen Rahmens für Mediendienste im Binnenmarkt („Europäisches Medienfreiheitsgesetz“) vor. Auf der ersten Oktober-Plenartagung soll das Parlament über den Bericht seines Ausschusses für Kultur und Bildung (CULT) abstimmen. Der Bericht in der angenommenen Fassung würde dann den Standpunkt des Parlaments für die interinstitutionellen Verhandlungen mit dem Rat bilden, der seinen Standpunkt im Juni 2023 angenommen hat.
