ELi audiovisuaalpoliitikat reguleeritakse Euroopa Liidu toimimise lepingu artiklitega 167 ja 173. Tähtsaim selle valdkonna õigusakt on audiovisuaalmeedia teenuste direktiiv, mis on praegu (2017. aastal) läbivaatamisel. Liidu keskne vahend kogu tööstusharu (eelkõige filmitööstuse) toetamiseks on programmi „Loov Euroopa“ alaprogramm MEDIA. Euroopa Liidu põhiõiguste hartas on sätestatud, et „massiteabevahendite vabadust ja mitmekesisust austatakse“.

Dokumendis kirjeldatakse programmi „Loov Euroopa” määruse ettepanekus toodud sätteid, võrreldakse neid eelmiste MEDIA programmide meetmetega ja analüüsitakse Euroopa audiovisuaalsektori põhiprobleemide lahendamiseks kavandatud tegevusi. Esitatakse soovitused ettepaneku parandamiseks ja tõhusa toetuse tagamiseks.

This note provides a brief introduction to the issue of the interoperability of digital interactive television services, with reference to the European Commission's 2006 Communication on the same subject. It evaluates the importance of the topic for the work of Parliament's Committee on Culture.
