End-to-end encryption (E2EE) systems bring enhanced security advantages to private communications. Yet they also pose increased difficulties to law enforcement investigations. In the case of child sexual abuse (CSA) online, these systems hide data from children who are being abused or coerced into sexual abuse, leading to a failure to pursue these crimes. Reports of online grooming increased by 82 % in 2022. While E2EE might prevail for all its advantages, it is also necessary to protect young children ...

Road traffic and safety provisions

Bileoga Eolais AE 01-11-2017

The EU set itself the goal of creating a European road safety area in the decade spanning 2010-2020. Competence in this field is principally national. The EU is therefore focusing its measures on vehicle conditions, the transport of dangerous goods and the safety of road networks.

The study provides an in-depth analysis of necessary technological changes, in order to improve the impact of higher or lower weight and volume of cars on road safety, particularly for, but not limited to vulnerable users. The analysis found that there are many vehicle based safety technologies that offer promise and further work should be undertaken to assess if future European type-approval regulation would be appropriate and proportional. Recommendations of technologies to consider are given.
