Nel luglio 2020 la Commissione ha adottato una serie di strategie sull'idrogeno e sull'integrazione dei sistemi energetici. Tali documenti strategici delineano misure per la transizione verso un sistema energetico e un'economia climaticamente neutri nell'ambito del Green Deal europeo. La commissione per l'industria, la ricerca e l'energia ha approvato relazioni di iniziativa su entrambe le strategie, relazioni che il Parlamento europeo dovrebbe votare durante la tornata di maggio.
