Nel 2020 la pandemia di COVID-19 ha avuto gravi ripercussioni sui trasporti e il turismo dell'UE, tanto a livello diretto, incidendo sulle loro entrate, quanto a livello indiretto, modificando i modelli di mobilità e turismo. Sebbene sia stata colpita l'economia dell'intera Unione, a risentirne di più sono stati i paesi e le regioni che dipendono dal turismo, con perdite pari al 40 % dei posti di lavoro in alcune regioni.
