Komisja Rolnictwa i Rozwoju Wsi Parlamentu Europejskiego przyjęła sprawozdanie z własnej inicjatywy, pragnąc zachęcić Komisję Europejską do wspierania innowacji w rolnictwie, które są uznawane za niezbędne zarówno dla podniesienia wydajności, jak i dla zapewnienia zrównoważonego charakteru tego sektora.

W trakcie pierwszej czerwcowej sesji plenarnej odbędzie się debata i głosowanie nad sprawozdaniem z inicjatywy własnej w sprawie rozwiązań technologicznych dla zrównoważonego rolnictwa. Według tego sprawozdania innowacje w zakresie technologii rolniczej są kluczem do sprostania niektórym z największych wyzwań stojących obecnie przed rolnictwem, mając na względzie zmianę klimatu, wzrost popytu na żywność wynikający ze wzrostu populacji światowej, a także zagrożenia dla środowiska.
