W marcu 2023 r. Komisja Europejska przedstawiła wniosek dotyczący dyrektywy w sprawie promowania naprawy towarów, którego celem jest modyfikacja obecnych linearnych wzorców biznesowych i konsumpcyjnych charakteryzujących się częstą i przedwczesną wymianą i wyrzucaniem produktów. Wstępne porozumienie polityczne osiągnięte przez Parlament i Radę w lutym 2024 r. ma zostać poddane pod głosowanie podczas drugiej sesji plenarnej w kwietniu.
