Namen industrijske politike EU je okrepiti konkurenčnost evropske industrije, tako da bo lahko ohranila vlogo gonilne sile trajnostne rasti in zaposlovanja v Evropi. Za zagotovitev boljših okvirnih razmer za industrijo EU so bile sprejete različne strategije; najnovejša je opisana v sporočilu „Industrijska politika za dobo globalizacije“ iz januarja 2014.
