Paulo Rangel (EPP) will present his draft opinion, AFCO is to provide to LIBE committee on the implementation of the Framework Decision on the European Arrest Warrant (FDEAW), an emblematic legal instrument of judicial cooperation in criminal matters adopted by the Council before the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon.

This draft opinion highlights the overall need for such instruments of mutual recognition to rely on high level of mutual trust and respect of the EU treaties and EU values, including the Rule of Law. It also emphasizes the need to bring the Framework Decision as a legal instrument fully under the Lisbon treaty and the need to address many aspects of cooperation with the UK in the criminal justice insisting on full respect to the commitments in the Political Declaration annexed to the Withdrawal Treaty.
