Fighting the pandemic and strengthening the European Green Deal

ENVI Members on Tuesday, 16 June, held an exchange with DG ECFIN Director General Maarten Verwey and DG REFORM Director General Mario Nava on the European Recovery Package and the links with the European Green Deal and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

When announcing the recovery plan, the Commission reasserted that the Green Deal would remain the EU growth strategy. According to the Commission, the recovery plan should be in line with the Union sustainable agenda, the Paris Agreement, and the relevant Union legislation setting out climate and environmental targets for the achievement of the Green Deal objectives. ENVI Members will quiz the two DGs to ensure that recovery package and the sectoral MFF proposals live-up to these pledges.
