Workshops

Workshops werden von den Fachabteilungen organisiert und ermöglichen den Mitgliedern, Fragen an Sachverständige zu Aspekten im Zusammenhang mit der parlamentarischen Tätigkeit oder mit aktuellen Themen zu richten und sich mit ihnen auszutauschen. Sie sind nicht zwangsläufig öffentlich, können aber im Rahmen von Ausschusssitzungen stattfinden.

Sanctions are an essential tool to safeguard EU values and interests, but how can the EU enforce them and protect its budget in the process? With a particular focus on the EU-Russia sanctions, this workshop will look at the issue from various perspectives, including trade sanctions, criminalising sanctions circumvention, asset freezing and tracing final beneficiaries of EU funds.

CONT workshop of 27/06/2023

The workshop will highlight various aspects and perspectives around corporate sponsorship of EU Presidencies, including the follow-up of the EU Ombudsman's recommendations and Council guidelines on the subject-matter.

Joint BUDG/CONT workshop of 30 January 2023

The workshop covered a series of important questions regarding the financial instruments that are needed to reach the environmental goals that are set out in the Paris Agreement to which the EU and all its Member States are signatories. More specifically, the question was raised how much has been committed so far financially and how much of this is the EU’s contribution.

Workshop on EU customs control

The workshop brought together experts and policy makers to discuss challenges related to customs control mechanisms, especially what regards collection of customs duties (one of the traditional own resources of the EU budget). The event was requested by the CONT committee following the persistence of so called undervaluation fraud cases, but the idea was to analyse control mechanisms in the broader context of reforming the customs union.

During the event Members listened to the presentation of the final study on "Single Audit Approach - Root Causes of the Weaknesses in the Work of the Member States’ Managing and Audit Authorities" by CSES authors, Jack Malan and Marta di Mauro. The workshop also included the participation of representatives from two Member States that contributed with information about the perspective of a single audit approach in their countries.

CONT workshop of 26/10/2021

Every year, public authorities in the EU spend around 14% of GDP (around EUR 2 trillion per year) on the purchase of services, works and supplies . High quality public services depend on modern, well-managed and efficient procurement. Improving public procurement can yield big savings: a 1% efficiency gain could save EUR 20 billion per year. To create a level playing field for businesses across Europe, EU law sets out minimum harmonised public procurement rules.

The Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) is the Council of Europe’s anti-corruption body. The EU became an observer to GRECO in 2019. The objective of this workshop is to exchange views on the EU’s potential full membership of GRECO in the future. Speakers from GRECO, the Commission, the Council, the Parliament and the civil society will engage in a lively discussion and the exchange of views.

This workshop will focus on the problem of missing trader fraud and carousel fraud. Experts will give an overview of the extent of the problem and the impact of missing trader fraud on the EU budget. Questions on how to improve the current VAT system will be answered and speakers of different institutions will join and give potential solutions and recommendations on how to fight missing trader fraud.

the use of big data and Artificial Intelligence in fighting corruption and misuse of public funds: workshop

This workshop aims to investigate how the new technologies are already being used in the field of fraud, corruption and malpractice detection, as well as prevention, what are its limitations, and how its use could be improved. Also, on a more theoretical level, it tries to give a glimpse of how data mining and artificial intelligence are able to operate in the budgetary control sphere.

The workshop on open spaces at EU institutions versus traditional work spaces will focus on the difference between different kind of offices spaces. It will answer the question on advantages and disadvantages, how Covid-19 has influence on the use of office space and employee well-being at work. The workshop will also focus on the current situation in the EU institutions regarding work spaces.

The Committee on Budgetary Control held a workshop entitled 'Technical Workshop on Inter-, and Intra-institutional Cooperation in Budgetary Control' which aimed at explaining how the Court of Auditors (ECA) and the Commission cooperate with the European Parliament in order to assist the European Parliament in its exercise of political control with regard to the discharge on the implementation of the budget.

Cohesion Policy workshop in CONT committee

The Integrated Territorial Investment - ITI - is a tool introduced in 2015 in the Common Provision Regulation for use during the European Structural and Investment Funds programming period. This tool aims to make it easier to run territorial strategies that need funding from different sources. It also promotes a more local form of policymaking.
