Oι επιτροπές μπορούν να διοργανώνουν ακροάσεις με τη συμμετοχή εμπειρογνωμόνων, όταν αυτό κρίνεται ουσιώδους σημασίας για το έργο τους επί ενός συγκεκριμένου θέματος. Οι ακροάσεις μπορούν να διοργανώνονται από κοινού, από δύο ή περισσότερες επιτροπές. Οι περισσότερες επιτροπές διοργανώνουν ακροάσεις τακτικά, εφόσον αυτό τους επιτρέπει να ενημερώνονται για τις απόψεις εμπειρογνωμόνων και να συζητούν μαζί τους για τα σημαντικότερα θέματα. On Tuesday, 23 January 2024 a joint hearing on “The European Union’s Strategy in the Sahel” will be organised by the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Development and the Sub-Committee on Security and Defence. It will be an opportunity to critically reflect on the EU's policy and approach towards this important region in light of recent coup d’états.
On 26 October, a Hearing is organised on “Rising geopolitical tensions: the protection of subsea infrastructure, including communication cables and pipelines". As defence capabilities are connected digitally, undersea cables are vital for defence and security of EU Member States. The Hearing will therefore aim at assessing the current threat landscape and risks to subsea infrastructure, including different actors and their modus operandi to sabotage subsea infrastructure.
Third state collusion with Russia: through arms export & circumvention of EU policy
In the framework of a public Hearing on “Third state collusion with Russia: through arms export policy and the circumvention of EU policy and sanctions to prevent supplies to Russia’s military industry”, taking place on 25 October, Members will discuss how to prevent the circumvention, by Russia and its allies, of sanctions imposed in the aftermath of its war of aggression against Ukraine.
On 23 October 2023, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence will hold a hearing on "The situation in Syria 12 years after the revolution: Standstill, Dynamics, EU response, and Future Prospects?". It will provide a reflection on the political, social and economic consequences of the ongoing conflict, which has shaped the country's development in the twelve years since the Revolution.
European defence industry and urgent need to replenish defence stockpiles in the EU
SEDE organises a public hearing on 'European defence industry and the urgent need to replenish defence stockpiles within the EU' on Tuesday, 19 September 2023 from 9.00 to 10.30hrs in room SPINELLI 3G2, with external experts.
On 25 April, a Public Hearing on EU-NATO cooperation will take place in the framework of a SEDE ordinary meeting. The Hearing will focus on the follow-up of the Madrid Summit, where Members have set new strategic directions for the Alliance and reinforced NATO's deterrent posture on the eastern flank and sent a strong message to Russia about its unity in the face of aggression against Ukraine.
SEDE Members will exchange views with experts on the geopolitical implications of the growing military cooperation between China and Russia, in particular against the background of Russia's ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine. The debate will focus on the increasing cooperation on arms and technology transfers, on military exercises between the two countries as well as on the use of hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns against Western allies and in Europe.
Enhancing EU support for Ukraine: conditions for the European Peace Facility and replenishing capabilities through joint procurement to efficiently enhance military support to Ukraine and the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base
On 26 January a joint hearing on "Recent Cases of Foreign Interference in the European Parliament - Allegations of Corruption" will take place from 14.00 to 17.00. It will be organised by the Special Committee on Foreign Interference (ING2), jointly with the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE).
On 8 December from 14.30 to 15.45, ING2 Members will welcome Vice-President of the European Commission/High Representative of the Union of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Mr Josep Borrell, to the special committee. As a follow-up to the recommendations from the INGE-report, ING2 Members will discuss, together with Members from AFET and SEDE, what steps have been taken since the adoption of the INGE report in March 2022.
The ING2 meeting on Thursday 29 September from 9.00 to 12.30 will start with a hearing on "Russian disinformation and propaganda regarding Ukraine in the light of its war of aggression and its impact on democratic processes in the European Union".
