It is a pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Petitions Committee where you will find information about the work which this committee does on behalf of the citizens and residents of the European Union.
The Petitions Committee is the bridge between the EU citizens and the EU institutions. The EU treaties guarantee all European citizens the right to write to the European Parliament on the various types of problems they encounter in their everyday lives, as long as the issues fall within the field of activity of the European Union.
As chairman of the Petitions Committee, I strive for the EU to better take advantage of citizens'' direct experiences of the EU law. Those experiences can help us as legislators and should be used to improve future legislation.
The committee also has an important role in helping to identify problems with the national implementation of EU law.
We must ensure that all the rights and opportunities that EU legislation creates become a reality which can benefit all citizens of Europe.
