EU action to protect the world's forests

On 6 and 7 July, the ENVI committee voted on a draft report on the EU’s role in protecting and restoring the world’s forests. The draft report as amended was adopted by 66 votes in favour, 2 against and 9 abstentions.
The ENVI Committee drafted its own-initiative report responding to the Commission's Communicaton, dated 23 July 2019, on "Stepping up EU action to protect and restore the world's forests". The 25 compromise amendments negotiated include a call on the Commission to present, without delay, a proposal for a European legal framework based on due diligence in order to ensure sustainable and deforestation-free supply chains for products and commodities placed on the EU market.
