In the context of the European Green Deal, the Commission published on 20 May the Communication «EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030: Bringing nature back into our lives » strategy. This Communication pointing out that nature is in a state of crisis, underlines that Biodiversity is also crucial for safeguarding EU and global food security. Biodiversity loss threatens our food systems, putting our food security and nutrition at risk.

As guardians of our land, farmers play a vital role in preserving biodiversity. To support the long-term sustainability of both nature and farming, this strategy will work in tandem with the new Farm to Fork Strategy and the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The exchange of views with Virginijus Sinkevicius Commissioner for Environment, Ocean and Fisheries, gave the opportunity to receive more information about the EC on how the future CAP could counteract declining biodiversity on farmland.
