Financial Assistance Working Group
The Financial Assistance Working Group (FAWG) has been re-established by the endorsement of the Conference of Presidents on 6 February 2020. It had originally been created in 2016 upon the request by the former Greek prime-minister Tsipras to the former president of the European Parliament Schulz to improve democratic scrutiny and accountability of the financial assistance programmes. The Financial Assistance Working Group has the mandate to monitor post-programme surveillance of financial assistance programmes and any possible future financial assistance programmes for specific countries and to discuss proposals for improved accountability for the design and implementation of future adjustment programmes within a new framework of the revised Treaty establishing the European Stability Mechanism, based on the lessons learnt in previous parliamentary terms.
