New EU rules on road transport aim to end distortion of competition in the sector while providing better working conditions for drivers. On 8 July, MEPs will vote on the mobility package for road transport, following its adoption by the transport committee in June.

The German Federal Minister for Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Mr Andreas Scheuer, will present the priorities of the German Presidency for the second half of 2020. The presentation will take place on Monday afternoon, 13 July 2020 in room ANTALL 2Q2 and will be webstreamed.

The TRAN Committee will hold an exchange of views with Kerstin Jorna, Director-General for the Internal Market , Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs of the European Commission, on matters falling within their common remit, however mainly focusing on the tourism part of the EU Recovery Plan and the revised MFF. The exchange of views will take place on Tuesday morning, 14 July 2020 in room ANTALL 2Q2 from where it will be webstreamed.

TRAN Members discussed with Commissioner Adina-Ioana Vălean the outcome of the recent open public and targeted stakeholder consultations on the trans-European transport network policy, which feed into the ongoing review of the TEN-T Regulation (EU) 1315/2013. The exchange of views took place on Tuesday afternoon, 23 June 2020 in room ANTALL 4Q1 from where it was webstreamed.

The Commission proposed to make 2021 the European Year of Rail to support the delivery of its European Green Deal objectives in the transport field. A series of events, campaigns and initiatives in 2021 will promote rail as a sustainable, innovative and safe mode of transport. This proposal shall also help to step up the pace of rail modernisation, which is needed to make rail a more popular alternative to other transport modes.
