Fourth meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (JPSG) on Europol

In the light of the recent Paris attacks, MEPs vote to make Europol, the European police office, more effective and urge Member States to fully cooperate.

The fourth meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol (JPSG) took place 24-25 February 2019 in Bucharest. The JPSG brought together Members of national parliaments and the European Parliament to fulfill the scrutiny and oversight on the activities of Europol including on fundamental rights. The JPSG meets at least twice a year. It is Co-Chaired by the European Parliament and the country holding the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The agenda also included high profile discussions on topics such as the findings by the Europol Cooperation Board, the state of play and activities of the Europol Cybercrime Centre and the Europol Migrant Smuggling Centre, as well as a keynote speech by the Commissioner for the Security Union - Sir Julian KING.
