ICM on the Fundamental rights aspects of Roma inclusion and fighting anti-Gypsyism

The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will vote on a resolution on the situation in the Schengen area following the Covid-19 outbreak, on 4 June. The Committee will also discuss the report on the implementation of National Roma integration strategies with Equality Commissioner Helena Dalli and Michael O'Flaherty, Executive Director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights. The report looks into ways of combating negative attitudes towards people with Romani background.

The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will go over the new proposal to reinforce the Union Civil Protection Mechanism for the period 2021-2027 in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic, on 4 June. The meeting will take place with DG ECHO Director General, Michou Paraskevi. The proposal aims to equip the new UCPM and its rescEU instrument with a 3.1 billion EUR revamped budget to tackle health and other emergencies in a more coordinated and speedy manner.

The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy will go over the impact of the Next Generation EU Recovery Plan on the EU’s industry and SMEs, and on the digitalisation of the Union, on 4 June. This debate will take place with the participation of Internal Market Commissioner, Thierry Breton.

The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will go over the new EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, on 5 June, with Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius. Published together with the Farm-to-Fork Strategy, the Biodiversity Strategy is an essential part of the European Green Deal. It focuses on two main strands of actions: a widened Nature Protection Network and a far-reaching EU Nature Restoration plan that includes legally binding restoration targets to be put forward in 2021.

The Conference of Presidents (CoP) of the European Parliament updated the institution’s calendar of activities on 2 April, as a result of the continuing precautionary measures taken to contain the spread of COVID-19. Apart from agreeing on a new extraordinary plenary session on 16 and 17 April in Brussels, the CoP has now introduced additional dates for remote meetings for Parliament’s governing bodies, committees and political groups. The full calendar is available on Parliament’s website.
