Una commissione può organizzare un''audizione di esperti, ove ciò sia ritenuto essenziale ai fini del proprio lavoro su un determinato tema. With the digital revolution and in particular the ever growing online shopping sector, we notice a shift in advertising, moving from the traditional concept of a "consumer" to the "user" of websites, online platforms and social media. Users are often subject to targeted advertising that can influence their choice and constitute profiling. While advertising via traditional channels has to abide by strict rules, digital advertisement is vastly unregulated.

The aim of the hearing was to hear the views of stakeholders (business and consumers associations) and academia on the need to review the Product Liability Directive and on related challenges in the new digital age. It allowed participants to present their views on whether the overall liability regime is adequate to facilitate the uptake of the new technologies, and to address the matter from different perspectives.

On Monday 8 April 2019, the Committees Budgetary Control (CONT) and Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) have jointly organised a public hearing entitled ‘Combatting customs fraud’.

Two panels discussed the actual benefits of the harmonisation of national rules and the possible future framework for harmonisation in the EU Single Market. Business and consumer representatives together with policy making representatives from the EU Council and the European Commission delved into the issues of reducing regulatory obstacles, bringing transparency for consumers, attracting investments and competing at global level through harmonisation.
