EU Mechanism on Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights

LIBE Committee held an exchange of views on the establishment of an EU Mechanism on Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights (DRF) on 29 June which took place against the background of the preparation of a new LIBE legislative initiative (Rapporteur Michal Simecka) on the DRF Mechanism, updating Parliament's position of 2016 and reacting to the Commission's Communication from July 2019.
Discussions with Members were preceded by presentations from Didier Reynders, Commissioner for Justice; Rik Daems, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE); Filippo Donati, President of the European Networks of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ); Jonas Grimheden, Programme Manager for Supporting Human Rights Systems, EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) as well as of the preliminary European Added Value Assessment on an EU mechanism on Democracy the Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights by EPRS.
