Digital Services Act: improving the functioning of the Single Market

On 6 July 2020, Members considered the 919 amendments tabled to the draft report by Alex Saliba (S&D) on the Digital Services Act, aimed at improving the functioning of the single market. The rapporteur, presented the compromise amendments, which are currently under discussion. A number of issues was mentioned, such as the need to maintain the principles of the e-Commerce Directive, the different measures to tackle illegal content online, the need to regulate online market places and to ensure

consumer protection, the setup of an ex ante regulatory framework for systemic online platforms and to ensure appropriate regulatory oversight. The vote in the IMCO Committee is planned on 28 September 2020 with the aim to submit the file to the Plenary in October 2020.
