Komiteja var organizēt ekspertu uzklausīšanu, ja uzskata, ka tas ir vajadzīgs sekmīgai attiecīgā jautājuma izskatīšanai. Uzklausīšanu var rīkot kopīgi divas vai vairākas komitejas. Vairums komiteju organizē regulāras uzklausīšanas, jo tās sniedz iespēju uzklausīt ekspertu viedokli un apspriest svarīgākos jautājumus. The ENVI Committee hold a public hearing on the topic of decarbonisation of the maritime transport in context of the ENVI Committee’s current work on the Commission proposal to amend Regulation (EU) 2015/757 on the monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide emissions from maritime transport (“MRV shipping”).

On 21 March 2019, the PETI and ENVI Committees will hold a joint Public Hearing on “Climate Change Denial.” The aim of the hearing is to explore the topic of climate change denial under different perspectives and to examine the communication techniques used in politics or by private companies and other actors in society to mislead the public on the negative impact of certain industrial activities or policies on the climate.

Parties to the Paris Agreement are invited to communicate, by 2020, their mid-century, long-term low GHG emission development strategies. The Energy Governance Union Regulation also provides that the Commission adopts a proposal for a Union long-term strategy for greenhouse gas emissions reduction in accordance with the Paris Agreement which includes a scenario on achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions within the Union by 2050 and negative emissions thereafter.
