The European Parliament will hold a public hearing on the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) entitled ‘Minority Safepack – one million signatures for diversity in Europe’, on 15 October. Having gathered the support of 1,123,422 signatories in 28 Member States, the organisers of this ECI will present their initiative in the presence of the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.

The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs held in its meeting of 1 October 2020 an exchange of views with Didier Reynders, Commissioner for Justice who presented the main elements of the awaited first annual Rule of Law Report adopted by the Commission on 30 September 2020.

The seventh meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol (JPSG) took place on 28-29 September 2020 in Brussels and via remote participation due to the pandemic. The JPSG brings together Members of national parliaments and the European Parliament to fulfil the scrutiny and oversight on the activities of Europol including on fundamental rights.

In the LIBE meeting of 24 September Members held a debate with Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life and Ylva Johansson, Commissioner for Home Affairs following their presentation of the New Pact on Asylum and Migration. This New Pact is expected to set out the asylum and migration policy of the Von der Leyen Commission and to end the deadlock in the Council on the reform of the Common European Asylum System pending since 2016.
