At the meeting of 3 September 2020, the Committee heard three petitions opposing the functioning of an on open-pit lithium mine in Valdeflores, Spain.
The petitioners argue that the mine constitutes a real threat to the surrounding environment and that European legislation on public access to environmental information, the management of waste from extractive industries, the assessment of the effects of certain plans and programmes on the environment, the conservation of natural habitats and wildlife and wild flora was breached.
