The regulation (EU) No 952/2013 laying down the Union Customs Code undergoes periodic amendments to update the legal framework to the necessities of the customs controls in the field, to regulatory developments and to evolution in the planning of the development of technical features. As well, the Delegated and Implementing acts to the Union Customs Code are subject to periodic revisions and amended regularly through their respective procedures.

The main amendments to the UCC in the 8th term of the European Parliament have been:

-The amendment of its article 136 to improve customs supervision for goods that have temporarily left the EU's customs territory while moving between two Union ports or airports, without stopping outside the EU's customs territory;

-The amendment to extend the scope of application of the Customs Code to the Italian exclave of Campione d'Italia and the territorial waters of lake Lugano;

-The amendment to its article 278 to extend to 2025 the transitional period during which paper-based procedures are admitted to process customs operations, while the necessary IT architecture that will provide for electronic procedures is completed.
