EU fisheries and aquaculture sector

The EU is the world’s largest market for fishery and aquaculture products and it has faced an overall increase in imports from non-EU countries in recent years, says PECH Committee Chair Pierre Karleskind in the latest issue of the MH newsletter. He presents the latest study that identifies the main internal and external factors affecting the sector’s effectiveness and provides recommendations to strengthen the competitiveness of the entire value chain of the sector in the coming years.

Every five years European voters are called to the ballot box to choose Members of the European Parliament. The vote has a direct impact on EU policy over the following parliamentary term.

The European elections are the biggest transnational vote on the planet and they shape not only Europe but also the EU’s place in the world.

Voters in the EU will elect new Members of the European Parliament during the European elections of 6 to 9 June. The newly elected Members, representing EU citizens until 2029, will meet in July to elect their President, Vice-Presidents and Quaestors. They will decide on the composition of Parliament’s standing and sub committees - thereby launching the new legislative term. The committees will then hold their first meetings to elect their respective Chairs and Vice-Chairs.
