INTA mission to Chile

The delegation, led by INTA Chair, Mr Bernd Lange, and the Standing Rapporteur, Mrs Inmaculada Rodríguez-Piñero Fernández (S&D, ES), travelled to Chile to meet a number of key government figures including VM Foreign Affairs and Ministers in charge of economy, agriculture, mining, environment, labour and gender. They also had exchanges with Chilean legislators, civil society organisations, representatives of the industry and indigenous people.

The INTA delegation was aimed at gathering field information on the implementation of the trade provisions of the existing Association Agreement (AA) with Chile; exchanging views with key interlocutors to better understand the objectives and constraints of each negotiating party in the context of the ongoing negotiations for the modernisation of the AA; following up on INTA's 3 resolutions on Chile adopted in Plenary on 14/12/2017; learning more about the economic structure and productive patterns in Chile.

INTA delegation to OECD

Paris, France

INTA Members travelled to the OECD to discuss trade related issues such as global forum on steel overcapacity, anti-corruption in trade agreements and global value chains. The delegation will meet with OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria and attend the presentation of the 2018 OECD Economic Outlook.

Joint INTA/AFET delegation to the G-20 Parliamentary Conference in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires

This is the first time ever that such a Parliamentary Conference on the margins of G-20 took place. In addition to the participation at the Conference, the delegation, chaired jointly by AFET Chairman David McAllister (PPE) and INTA Vice-Chair Iuliu Winkler (PPE), had series of meetings with the government, the Congress, civil society and business organisations.

The following topics will were raised:

G-20, EU-Argentina relations, EU-Mercosur Association Agreement (current trade talks) and regional issues such as Venezuela and the migration crisis.

INTA mission to South Africa

During the mission INTA Members assessed the implementation of EU-SADC Economic Partnership Agreement that has been provisionally applied since October 2016. In addition, the Members took stock with their counterparts of bilateral EU and South Africa trade and investment relations. They also met with civil society, chambers of commerce, land reform and trade law experts among others.

There was a public debate on trade and gender with UN Women, Black Business Council, Black Management Forum and other stakeholders. Members also participated in EU-South Africa Joint Parliamentary Meeting and discussed topics ranging from the strategic cooperation between EU and South Africa to trade, water management and food security.

INTA mission to Tunisia

From 8 to 9 October 2018, a delegation of INTA Committee visited Tunisia in order to engage about the ongoing negotiations for a EU-Tunisia Trade Agreement. Members met with the Tunisia's Secretary of State for Trade, the Minister for Agriculture, Members of the Tunisian Parliament, and representatives of professional associations, such as UTICA, and of Trade –Unions, such as UGTT. The outcome of this mission was be presented by the INTA Chair during the meeting on 11 October.

INTA mission to Japan

Members of INTA Committee, led by the Chair, Mr Bernd Lange, travelled to Japan for talks with the government, Parliamentarians and stakeholders. Discussions during the mission prepared the ground for a vote in committee and later in plenary where the European Parliament will have the final say on this comprehensive agreement.

INTA mission to Western Sahara

INTA Committee fact finding delegation travelled to Western Sahara on 3-4 September to find out whether an extension of preferential trade tariffs to the territory, as proposed by the Commission and the Council, would benefit and enjoy the support of the population living in the territory.

INTA fact-finding mission to Mexico

During a three-day visit Members of INTA Committee discussed with their counterparts the agreement reached between the Commission and Mexico on 21 April 2018. The delegation was set to meet state officials at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economy, and Public Administration, sectoral technical ministries responsible for, among others, environment and intellectual property. Members also held talks with civil society organizations and social partners.

INTA mission to China

Members of INTA Committee visited China for the first time from 7 to 9 May 2018. The purpose of the visit was to engage with high-level Chinese counterparts and European business representatives based in China about ongoing questions related to the EU-China trade relations.

The delegation went first to Shanghai to meet with the Shanghai People's Congress and Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and then to Beijing for meetings with the National People's Congress, Ministry of Commerce, International Department of the CPC, and relevant executive bodies.

INTA Mission to Sri Lanka

The mission took place in order to follow-up on Sri Lanka's commitments made in the process of applying for GSP+ status (The Generalized System of Preferences), which was granted to Sri Lanka in May 2017. The visit allowed not only to monitor the implementation of the 27 GSP+ relevant international conventions on the spot, but also to have a first assessment of the impact of the EU's generous unilateral trade preferences on trade and investment relations between the EU and Sri Lanka.

Members of the delegation had a high-level meetings with the relevant Ministers, Parliamentarians as well as with representatives of business, Civil Society and International Organisations in Colombo.

The visit also feeded into INTA's ongoing work on GSP implementation, following its Public Hearing on GSP and the publication of the bi-annual GSP implementation report by the Commission.
