Public hearing: Airline distribution channel discrimination
The TRAN Committee conducted a public hearing on the issue of "Airline distribution channel discrimination". Along with representatives of airlines, global distribution systems and digital applications, travel agents and passengers, the Committee wished to better understand the current situation and the future developments of this industry, so essential to the air transport sector.

Public hearing on Digitalisation in transport
The hearing seeks to understand better the impact of digitalisation in transports. In particular, the Committee on Transport and Tourism has recognised that digitalisation must continue being one of the top priorities for the transport sector in order to foster its attractiveness and ensure its strong economic position in Europe and vis-à-vis third countries.

Public Hearing on Brexit and impact on passengers' and transport workers' rights
Can you claim the same compensation if you fly from Liverpool to Paris and from Frankfurt to London, if your flight is delayed? Will you be bound by the same rules on rest times when driving on both sides of the Eurotunnel? Representatives of the passengers and transport workers will appear before the TRAN Committee on 24 May at 15h00 to speak about the possible impact of Brexit on their situation and their rights.

Tourism Task Force - Public hearing on the impact of Brexit on tourism
So far facilitated by the free movement across the EU, the travel and tourism flows between the UK and EU following Brexit were analysed during this hearing. For the UK tourism is the fifth largest export industry and for the EU27 UK tourists are equally crucial. Not only conventional tourism but also health services, employment, long term stays, duty free, roaming, freedom of movements and Consumer Rights Directive could be affected.

Hearing on the impact of Brexit on maritime transport
Third in a series of the hearings about "impact of Brexit on transport', this hearing focused on the maritime sector, including shipping companies and ports. As the negotiations between the UK and the EU enter their second, sector-specific stage, the Members questioned their guests about their concerns, projections and wishes concerning the negotiations and legal and practical consequences of the UK leaving the EU.

In the context of the legislative procedure on the Commission’s proposal for a regulation on rail passengers’ rights and obligations (recast), the TRAN committee had invited representatives of users’ associations, railway undertakings, railway associations and regulatory bodies to share their views on the Commission's proposal. The following debate with Members served as documentation for the work of the TRAN Commission.

Public hearing on Mobility package - market/social aspects and road charges
The TRAN Committee reopened a debate on the functioning of the EU internal market in road transport and its social aspects. At the hearing, experts presented their views on the legislative proposals of the mobility package and followed up with a discussion with Members.

Hearing on Brexit and the impact on land transport
Following a well-attended hearing on "Brexit in aviation" the TRAN committee held a second public hearing on the impact of Brexit, this time on land transport. The high-level representatives of the road and rail sectors shared their concerns with MEPs and explain what "soft/hard Brexit" could mean to their industry in terms of daily business, operations, legal structures and development plans.

Hearing on 'Impact of Brexit on aviation'
High level representatives in the field of aviation were invited to speak in the next TRAN Committee meeting on the topic of Brexit. Stakeholders discussed ways in which the UK’s departure from the EU is likely to impact the aviation industry from the perspective of the airports, the airlines and the tourism industry as a whole. The presentations were followed by a question and answer session with Members.

Hearing on "Women and transport"
This hearing focused on gender in transport and the role of women in solving the shortage of qualified staff in transport posts in the coming years. The hearing included presentations on the European framework for setting up equal opportunities, experience of Member States, specific problems encountered by female workers, as well as the viewpoint of transportation companies. The hearing took place on Tuesday 11 April from 10:30-12:30 in Paul-Henri Spaak P1A002 and was webstreamed.
