On the 19 November, the JURI Committee with Elisabeth Morin-Chartier MEP and EP Coordinator on Children’s Rights hosted a public hearing on safeguarding the rights of the child in cross-border family disputes. The event was organised in the context of the work of the Coordinator in cross-border parental child abduction and family disputes.

A panel of leading experts discussed the current legal state of play, best practices in ensuring the right of the child to be heard in legal proceedings and the role of mediation in cross border family cases. They provided opinions on the future actions required to ensure the promotion and protection of the rights of the child in such situations. Members had an opportunity to join in the discussion during the hearing.

The hearing was webstreamed.
