Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to the site of the European Parliament's Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (DNAT).
As the elected chair of the delegation, I preside over our regular meetings in Brussels and Strasbourg and set the agenda for our work with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
During this parliamentary term, we'll be working to ensure that the European Parliament's perspective is taken into account. While we respect the institutional autonomy of both the EU and NATO, we also know that parliamentarians can offer a unique, democratic voice that strengthens EU-NATO cooperation.
In addition to our meetings within the European Parliament, we attend the annual sessions of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which take place twice a year. The last one was held in Tbilisi (Georgia) at the end of May and the next session will run from 6 to 9 October 2017 in Bucharest.
In the current complex and volatile security environment in and around Europe, the EU and NATO share the same strategic interests and face the same challenges. These challenges ahead appear more pressing than they have for many years. Shared principles and values are the foundation for effective and successful EU-NATO cooperation for the common good of our citizens.
In times of such turmoil on our continent and worldwide, Members of the European Parliament make a substantial contribution to parliamentary diplomacy and their role is indispensable in pursuing the interests and representing the values of our citizens in EU security and defence policy.
I look forward to guiding our delegation through these challenging times.
