Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to the website of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with Maghreb countries (DMAG).

It is a pleasure to introduce you to the delegation for relations with Maghreb countries. DMAG covers all North African countries, with the exception of Egypt. It comprises three Joint Parliamentary Committees (EU-Morocco, EU-Tunisia and EU-Algeria) and three Inter-Parliamentary delegations (Mauritania and Libya).

Parliamentary diplomacy and the parliamentary extension of international relations are at the heart of our delegation. The Maghreb delegation also represents the European Union in Maghreb countries and helps promote the values on which the European Union is founded: liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law.

During the present term, DMAG will continue to contribute to enhancing bilateral and regional relations in the complex international context that traditionally characterises the Mediterranean region.

DMAG will also deal with topical issues (such as migration, security, economic growth, protection of environment and social development) that impact citizens' lives more and more directly on both sides of the Mediterranean. The delegation, as part of its mandate, will also evaluate diverse strategic directions and global policy priorities, analysing EU policies and projects. The delegation works towards building renewed public trust (and support) that considers the interests of all parties involved.

During this legislative term, in addition to our regular meetings within the European Parliament, we will continue to hold Inter-Parliamentary Meetings (IPMs) or Joint Parliamentary Meetings (JPMs) with our counterparts. These meetings enhance relations between the EU and Maghreb countries, improving our mutual understanding and helping creating bridges and connections between the two rims of the Mediterranean.
