The Delegation for the relations with the Korean Peninsula (D-KOR) held a working lunch on 25 May 2023 with H.E. Soon-gu YOON, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Belgium, Head of the Korean representation to the EU.
The exchange of views with the Ambassador focused on the Digital partnership: how to best strengthen industrial cooperation with the Republic of Korea and the situation of civil rights.

Meeting of 25 January 2023, Brussels

The Delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula (D-KOR) met in association with the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE) and with the Delegation for relations with Japan (D-JP). SEDE Committee debriefed on the ad hoc delegation to South Korea and Japan, 19-21 December 2022.

Meeting of 23 January 2023, Brussels

The Delegation for the relations of the Korean Peninsula met in association with the Commission of Foreign Affairs on the topic exchange of views with the EEAS on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in light of ongoing escalation.

Meeting of 14 September 2022, Strasbourg

The DKOR Delegation held an exchange of views on the recent developments in the Korean Peninsula and on the EU-South Korea relations, in view of the 22nd EU-Republic of Korea Interparliamentary Meeting which took place in Seoul, on 20-21 September 2022.

The meeting was held in the presence of:

  • H.E. Mr YOON Soongu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Korea, and
  • Mr Thomas Frellesen, Head of Division, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific.

The ordinary meeting took place on 1 July 2021 via Interactio and was dedicated to an exchange of views with:
- Ms. Laura Rockwood, Director of Open Nuclear Network- Ambassador Alexander Kmentt, Director of Disarmament, Arms Control and Nonproliferation at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The discussions focused on Prospects for Denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula and recent developments in the area related to that.

Joint Meeting of 22 April 2021 with Members of DANZ and D-JP, Brussels

The meeting entirely devoted to the EU Strategy on Indo-Pacific. Two speakers, Ambassador Jasper Wieck, Federal Foreign Office, Germany & Mr George Cunningham from EEAS, both crucial experts in shaping strategic options, represented the complimentary visions from M.S. & the EU.

Ambassador Wieck presented the three German basic principles: Inclusiveness of the region; Diversification: Focusing on strengthening partnership with like-minded countries e.g.Australia, Japan, NZ; Rules-based Multilateralism; strategies to counteract any bi-polarity in the region.


Mr Cunningham stressed main areas to work on: carbon emission, trade & economic relationships. He underlined the importance of human rights, security & military options for the EU in the region, notably ensuring maritime safety and free passage in order to safeguard the region's strategic autonomy. He recalled the next important steps and opportunities, especially the EU-India summit on the 8 May.

The ordinary meeting took place on 26 January 2021 via Webex and was dedicated to an exchange of views with H.E. YOON Soongu, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the European Union.

The discussions focused on recent developments in South Korea, including the state-of-play on the ILO core conventions ratifications, data adequacy decision and ROK's recent announcement of carbon neutrality by 2050, as well as on the situation in the Korean peninsula.

The Delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula held an informal meeting by remote participation on Thursday 30 April 2020, 14.00-15.00. This meeting was dedicated to an exchange of views on recent developments on the Korean Peninsula with the Ambassador of South Korea to the European Union, H.E. Yoon Soongu.
