25th EU-Mexico JPC meeting, 11-12 July 2018, Brussels

The 25th meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was held in Brussels on 11-12 July 2018, co-chaired by chaired by Teresa Jiménez Becerril (EPP, ES) for the European Parliament, and Luz María Beristain Navarrete (PRD) for the Congress of the United Mexican States.

The delegates addressed the following topics:

  • Evaluation of the electoral results in Mexico and perspectives on the next European elections
  • The ratification process of the EU-Mexico global agreement
  • Immigration: borders control, transit and integration policy
  • Exchange of views on security and justice, fight against corruption, protection of citizens' rights
  • Education as a fundamental society transformation tool

The JPC members made final comments on the Joint Declaration and adopted it unanimously.

24th EU-Mexico JPC meeting, 12-15 February 2018, Ciudad de México and Cuernavaca

The 24th meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was held in Ciudad de México and Cuernavaca on 12-15 February 2018, co-chaired by chaired by Teresa Jiménez Becerril (EPP, ES) for the European Parliament, and Miguel Enrique Lucia Espejo (MORENA) for the Congress of the United Mexican States.

The delegates addressed the following topics:

  • The political and economic situation of Mexico and the European Union
  • Cooperation to promote and strengthen protection of human rights in Mexico and the European Union
  • Cooperation to strengthen and promote gender equality and reduce violence against women in Mexico and the European Union
  • Cooperation on social cohesion and measures to tackle social exclusion in Mexico and the European Union
  • Promotion of trade and investment for SMEs between Mexico and the European Union
  • Exchange of best practice in the field of mobility, transport and sustainable tourism

The JPC members made final comments on the Joint Declaration and adopted it unanimously.

23rd EU-Mexico JPC meeting, 27-28 November 2017, Brussels

The 23rd meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was held in Brussels on 27-28 November 2017, co-chaired by chaired by Teresa Jiménez Becerril (EPP, ES) for the European Parliament, and Rabindranath Salazar Solorio (MORENA) for the Congress of the United Mexican States.

The delegates addressed the following topics:

  • The political and economic situation of Mexico and the European Union
  • The state of play of the negotiations on the modernisation of the EU-Mexico Global Agreement
  • New EU-Latin America migratory flows
  • New security challenges: air security, terrorism and cyberterrorism
  • Multilateralism and climate change in the face of new global challenges: enhanced cooperation between the EU and Mexico

The JPC members made final comments on the Joint Declaration and adopted it unanimously.

22nd EU-Mexico JPC meeting, 22-23 February 2017, Mérida (Yucatán)

The 22nd meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was held in Mérida on 22-23 February 2017, co-chaired by chaired by Teresa Jiménez Becerril (EPP, ES) for the European Parliament, and Rabindranath Salazar Solorio (MORENA) for the Congress of the United Mexican States.

The delegates addressed the following topics:
  • The political and economic situation of Mexico and the European Union
  • Legislation and implementation of anti-corruption policies in Mexico and the EU
  • Social policies in the era of globalization
  • Cooperation between Mexico and the EU on security, terrorism, and the fight against organized crime: arms, drugs, and human beings trafficking
  • Progress and actors in the Mexico-EU negotiations on the modernization of the Global Agreement
The JPC members made final comments on the Joint Declaration and adopted it unanimously.

21st EU-Mexico JPC meeting, 17-18 October 2016, Brussels

The 21st meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was held in Brussels on 17-18 October 2016, co-chaired by chaired by Teresa Jiménez Becerril (EPP, ES) for the European Parliament, and Rabindranath Salazar Solorio (MORENA) for the Congress of the United Mexican States.

The delegates addressed the following topics:
  • The political and economic situation of Mexico and the European Union
  • Right to development, international mobility and co-responsibility in the management of migration flows
  • Progress in the modernisation of the EU-Mexico Global Agreement
  • The contribution of European and Mexican civil society to trade and sustainable development
  • Results and strengthening of the EU-Mexico Sectoral Agreement on Science and Technology

The JPC members made final comments on the Joint Declaration and adopted it unanimously.

20th EU-Mexico JPC meeting, 9-11 February 2016, Mexico

The 22nd meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was held in Mexico on 9-11 February 2016, co-chaired by chaired by Teresa Jiménez Becerril (EPP, ES) for the European Parliament, and Rabindranath Salazar Solorio (MORENA) for the Congress of the United Mexican States.

The delegates addressed the following topics:

  • The political and economic situation of Mexico and the European Union
  • Human rights situation in Mexico and the EU
  • Human security and the fight against international terrorism, opportunities for cooperation between the EU and Mexico
  • Progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals and prospects for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Climate change: Outcomes of the COP 21 and the role of Mexico and the EU
The JPC members made final comments on the Joint Declaration and adopted it unanimously.

18th EU-Mexico JPC meeting, 17-19 February 2015, Mexico

A delegation of 11 MEPs, led by Teresa JIMÉNEZ BECERRIL (PPE, Spain), Chair of Parliament's Delegation to the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee, travelled to Mexico City from 17 to 19 February 2015 for the 18th meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and a series of other meetings to help analyse Mexico's political, social and economic situation and relations between the two strategic partners.

The meetings held with the EU ambassadors to Mexico, members of the government and representatives of civil society provided a forum for very worthwhile exchanges of views on the numerous reforms which are currently under way, the results achieved thus far and the challenges that have yet to be addressed, and the future of bilateral relations, in particular the Global Agreement and how it could be updated.

The topics discussed were:
  • Political and economic situation in the EU and Mexico, and updating the three pillars of the Global Agreement (political dialogue, cooperation and trade)
  • Human rights situation in Mexico and the EU
  • Security and transnational organised crime: Terrorism, drug trafficking, arms trafficking and human trafficking
  • State of play as regards meeting the UN Millennium Development Goals and challenges to be met
  • Climate change: Analysis of the outcome of COP 20 (December 2014, Lima) and prospects for COP 21 (December 2014, Paris).

17th EU-Mexico JPC meeting, 16-17 April 2014, Strasbourg

The 17th meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee was held in Strasbourg on 16-17 April 2014. The meeting was chaired by the co-chairs of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) Ricardo Cortés Lastra (S&D, ES) representing the European Parliament (EP) and Rabindranath Salazar Solorio (PRD) representing the Congress of the Republic of the United States of Mexico.

Working sessions were held on:
  • the political, economic and social situation in Mexico and the EU
  • progress and prospects for updating the Global Agreement and legal framework provisions for Mexico and the European Union.
Delegates addressed current issues regarding EU-Mexico relations, including:
  • cooperation in the field of science, technology and innovation
  • measures to combat illegal arms trafficking.
Delegates also met with the representatives of civil society.
