4th EU-Cambodia IPM and 6th EU-Laos IPM, Phnom Penh and Vientiane, Oct-Nov 2017

Werner Langen (EPP, Germany), Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), led a six-Member delegation to Phnom Penh and Vientiane from 30 October until 2 November 2017.

The main purpose of the visit was to get first-hand information on the EU's activities and on the political and economic situation in both countries. The Delegation issued two press releases following the visit (see link below).

In Cambodia, meetings were held with:
  • Pit Chamnan, Secretary of State for education, youth and sport
  • Prak Sokhonn, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
  • representatives of civil society organisations
  • Kem Sithan, Secretary of State (Commerce)
  • Mr. Son Chhay, Parliamentary Spokesperson, CNRP
  • H.E. Chheang Vun, Chairman of Commission of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Information and Media, and other members of the National Assembly
  • Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister
  • Aun Pornmoniroth, Senior Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance

In Laos, discussions took place with, amongst others:

  • Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Mr Bounchom Ubonpaseuth, Vice-Minister of finance
  • Members of the National Assembly
  • Kikeo Chanthaboury, Vice Minister for Planning and Investment
  • Minister Bounkheut Sangsomsak, President of the National Committee on Human Rights

Working group visit to Thailand and EU-Cambodia IPM, Bangkok, Phnom Penh, March 2014

A working group from the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with ASEAN visited Thailand and Cambodia during the week of 24 to 28 March 2014.

The delegation was led by Mr Werner Langen (EPP, Germany) and included also the following Members: Mr Robert Goebbels (S&D, Luxembourg, Vice-chairman), Mr Hubert Pirker (EPP, Austria), Ms Teresa Riera Madurell (S&D, Spain), Mr Gerald Häfner (Greens, Germany), Mr Csaba Sógor (EPP, Romania) and Ms Julie Girling (ECR, UK).

The programme for the working group visit to Thailand included meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister, the EU Ambassador to Thailand, the Senate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and leaders of the Democratic Party and civil society organisations, among others.

The programme for Cambodia included meetings with the National Assembly, representatives of the main political parties, the Minister of the Interior, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Council of Ministers, the EU Ambassador, and civil society organisations, among others. MEPs also had the chance of visiting EU-funded projects in the Seam Reap region.
