Meeting of 27 April 2017, Brussels

The meeting included exchanges of view on
  • the communication of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica on the article 2 of the Rules of Procedure for the future Joint Parliamentary Committee, with
    - H.E. Mr. István Alfaro, Ambassador of Costa Rica to the EU;

  • the results of the primary elections in Honduras, with
    - H.E. Mr Roberto Ochoa Madrid, Ambassador of Honduras to the EU
    - Mr Aldo Dell'Ariccia, Head of Division for Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, of the EEAS;

  • the Annual Report from the European Commission on the Implementation of Part IV of the Agreement establishing an Association between the EU and its Member States and Central America, with
    - Mr Matthias Jorgensen, Head of Unit for the Relations with Latin America, DG Trade, European Commission

Meeting of 23 March 2017, Brussels

This was a joint meeting of:
  • the Delegation for relations with the countries of Central America (DCAM)
  • the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (DLAT).

Co-Chair Sofia Sakorafa (DCAM) reminded MEPs about the Delegation visit to Panama from 30 March to 1 April 2016.

An exchange of views was held on common global challenges and Panama's commitment to transparency and good tax governance, with:
  • H.E. Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado, Vice-President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama.

Meeting of 6 March 2017, Brussels

This was a joint meeting with
  • the Delegation for relations with the countries of Central America (DCAM)
  • the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (DLAT).

Co-Chair Sofia Sakorafa (DCAM) said she was very pleased by the visit of Mr Hugo Martinez to the European Parliament to present the National Security Plan of El Salvador.

The meeting included an exchange of views on the "Plan El Salvador Seguro": state of play, perspectives and participation of the EU, with
  • Hugo Martínez, Minister for Foreign Affairs of El Salvador;
  • Hato Hasbún, Secretary for Governance of the Presidency of the Republic of El Salvador;
  • Antonio Morales, Deputy Secretary for Governance of the Presidency of the Republic of El Salvador.

Extraordinary meeting of 8 February 2017, Brussels

This was a joint meeting of
  • the Delegation for relations with the countries of Central America (DCAM)
  • the Monitoring Group on Association Agreement EU-Central America

Alexander Mora, Minister for Foreign Trade of Costa Rica spoke on three key issues:
  1. State of play of the implementation of the trade pillar of the Association Agreement EU-Central America
  2. Costa Rica's Pro-Tempore Presidency of SIECA (Secretariat of Central American Economic Integration)
  3. Accession of Costa Rica to the OECD.

Meeting of 26 January 2017, Brussels

The Chair announced that the approval by the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica of PARLACEN's proposal to modify provisions for the composition of the Central American delegation to the JPC is still pending.

Exchanges of views were held on
  • the draft calendar of activities for the second semester 2017;

  • the report N° 30/2016 of the European Court of Auditors on the effectiveness of EU support to priority sectors in Honduras, with:
    - Bettina Jacobsen, the Member of the European Court of Auditors responsible for the report.

The meeting also included a presentation and exchange of views of the objectives of the Costa Rican Presidency pro-témpore of the System of Integration of Central America (SICA) for the first semester of 2017, with
  • H.E. Mr István Alfaro, Ambassador of Costa Rica to the EU.
